Well, 2004 started off well and t March 30th I had a new grandson born. He is a fine lttle boy. The hockey team I am trainer for won the Ontario Championship in OHA Junior Development league and we celebrated that event. My wife and I had talked about a cottage for years and the previous December we bought one. We were only just starting to go up to it and do some work inside when we had a set back. About the 10th of April I got wiped out with a freak storm. Two sheds were destroyed, most of my barn roof and part of the house roof, tractors damaged, most of the machinery escaped serious injury. The repair bills totalled $75,000, about 60,000 was covered with insurance. May, June and July were taken up with clean up, rebuilding, haying and getting back to normal as much as possible. I did enjoy the week-ends at the cottage to relax and help deal with all the things that had changed at the farm. At the end of June my mechanics job came to an end as the boss decided he had to get his knees done and so we closed his shop after 30 years and walked away from it. By August the electrical was complete on the barn and new 40x80'shed and I finished repairing the corn planter and hopper wagon that had been damaged. September brought a new season of hockey and to date we are doing well 15-8-2, I sold my crop of calves at a fairly decent price...$.93 across the board at an average of 505lbs. About November I had all the machinery stored away inside and had the barn hunkered down for the winter.. The snowblower is on the tractor and its had a good work out so far. The best part is the family who are all healthy, safe and happy and thats the best part of the year in review. When we look back we see how tenacious our lives are and we face the good and the bad with our best character. I often have heard the old addage that"The Lord works in mysterious ways" and sometimes it seems that way butI have never felt let down ...all in all it was a good year . Now I want to take the opportunity to wish all of you, My YT friends ,a very Happy New Year and I hope your strength and your character will see you through the bad times and bring you your best good times Bless you all and your families..... .Mike in Exeter Ontario

Sounds like quite a year. @ least you still have hockey. Our Dallas Stars along with the rest of the NHL have decided to take the year off. On your job maybey you can persue the "American Dream " or should I say "North Amercican dream" and open your own shop.

Hi Mike, I know what you mean by a bad year but it sounds like things are looking up for you a little now. How big of a spread do you have up there? I have had a life dream of going to canada to do a little deer hunting and trout fishing. I dont need some place warm or really far away for my dream vacation. But on a good note I finally received my Xmas gift in the mail today. Guy Fays Farmall Letter Series Book. The other half said I really was getting a gift I just had to wait for it. I figured that was like the old saying the check is in the mail. LOL HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR AND GREAT NEXT YEAR MAGMAN JON

Michael, happy new year to you and your family. I"ve followed your year here on the board, and found you to be an example of the fine folk in this hobby. Somtimes the man upstairs gives us "growth oportunities" that stretch and strengthen our character. At times it"s a bit hard to see the lessons, but we grow anyway. Again wishing a prosperous year.
