I went to start my 300 u the other morning (it had been ten below earlier) and nothing happened. It has always started in very cold weather.I turned the key and just a ugh type sound like the motor was seized up.I pulled the starter and it spins just fine.Put it back in and nothing.I had left the hood off and it is possible that rain might have gotten into the air cleaner at one time maybe allowing there to be ice on top of the cylinders.I pulled the plugs and poured dry gas in.I will do the dry gas thing again and let it sit awhile then try again. Is there any way I can test the starter to see if it has the proper power to turn the motor . The battery is completely charged by the way.Any ideas what might be wrong ??? thanks dave

In addition to all that's been done or suggested, make sure the starter mounting flange and block area is brite and clean so the current can get to ground easily. Some never-seize in there helps. Next, jump over your solenoid with a heavy cable (be careful, it WILL spark fierce!) I've had a LONG streak of bad solenoids that cause the same symptoms. You might be getting enough current thru bad contacts to spin the starter, but not the tractor.

Rock tractor in high gear to see if engine is stuck. Make sure battery has 12.5 volts or more. Check for bad/loose connections in wire circuits. If it still doesn't work, take starter to a rebuilder or auto parts store to have it checked. This is all I can think of. Let us know how it goes!
