Hi, Was lookin in the Ontario Farmer Paper, and in the antique ads there is a SMDTA for sale, The engine and ta both rebuilt, the ad says lots of money spent, needs paint to finish off. I have bin lookin for a SMTA, but a Diesel one! man! But one thing. I can't afford it. He wants $9500 CAN for it. Is that a good price or is it way to much? Just asking. I know a guy who has $12,000 into the engine of his and is not done.

I recently bought my first 560 diesel, and I think they are equally neat, and rather unique for their time, and a lot cheaper, but they wont be cheap in another 5 years.Just a thought.

Unfortunately for the buyer, for a SMDTA the price is not too far off, provided and absolutely provided that the seller has done exactly what he says he has done, the transmission is good, he has fixed all leaks, and it has good tires. I consider statements like "all it needs is paint (to finish it off)" to be untrue -- doesn't matter what tractor it is, it may still need a lot of work.

Had he had the pump worked on? That's about $400 around here.
Dad has a nice original MTAD he bought before the market got hot. The old IH diesels are really neat tractors, I'd like to have one someday.
I know the same feeling you have. If only money grew on trees...
