If you have cranked and cranked, fuel will be dripping out of the carb. If not you may have a fuel problem, as indicated by tractor vet. Take loose the fuel line at the carb and see if fuel runs out. If not, turn off the fuel and see if you can unplug the outlet. There is also a screen on the end of the inlet that screws into the carb. It would have to be badly plugged to totally stop flow, but take a look.

Well the first thing I would have thought is you burnt the points together but you say you changed them so . Do you have a balast resistor if so you need to bypass it with a jumper wire and see if that works. I would take an 12 test light and check to see if you have power going to the points if you do take the plastic plate off and reinstall the rotor and find a spot by turning over the motor with the key on till the points open then take the rotor and turn it back and forth and look for spark between the gap. Let us know what you find. JON

I have spark everywhere. I know that the round thing on top of the starter gets very hot..

Thats getting hot because you are cranking the starter too much. You should have an ignition problem, and no amount of cranking is going to solve it until you can track the problem down.
Leaving the key on should only ruin the coil, points, resistor (maybe not all of these at the same time, but they are all live when keyed on).If these are all replaced and the problem still exists, its possible something unrelated is wrong and its a giant coincidence. If the cap and rotor need to be replaced anyway,do those now too....not that it would solve the problem, but it will eliminate one more problem area. Also, check the glass fuel bowl for sediment/plugged screen...just in case too.Might even put new plugs in....heck...go for a full tune up! lol

Had the same problem with mine last winter. Backed it into the shed after plowing snow, it was running fine. Next time I went to use it, it wouldn't even act like it wanted to start. Checked everything. Finally, I decided to change the plugs. Afterall, what else was there. It fired right up and purred like a kitten.
