M drive shaft coupling question

Just replaced the clutch in a "51 Farmall M, the wavy looking plate that connects the trans yoke to the clutch shaft was worn almost through. Picked up 4 of the tapered bolts from the IH dealer and a new coupling plate from a salvage yard (dealer wanted $80 for it). Now that its all back together I noticed the replacement plate is thinner than the orig.- it has about 3/16" of play. Should I try and find a thicker plate or is it good as is?

Thanks
Ben

Get the right parts. There should not be any play in there at all other than the give from the rubber washers. Otherwise the clutch shaft could move back and forth in the clutch disk and pilot bearing.

My 2 cents...

Just restored a Super H and I can tell you that if that coupler and the tapered bolts aren't tight it will result in a noisy coupling. Can even sound like a bad bearing in transmission.
My .02 cents worth.
