Hi Guys,
I was bored the day before Christmas so I decided to give my self a present and put a Rebuilt Mag on my old H. She has always run pretty good and started fine until this fall when I took the pressure washer to all the RED IRON. Then it sat in a down pour of rain that seemed like lasted couple of weeks. Well, she was getting hard to start and running rough. I didn't bother to blast the new mag or anything. Just took it apart and greased the bearings replaced the springs in the trip and picked a good used coil out of my stack and put her together with new tune up parts and a coil cap that I plastic coated. I put her in just like the old one and timed it by the it manual. hooked her all up and decided to turn the motor over by the crank to check my timing. Ill be darned if she didn't fire right up with one or two cranks. I have never used an on off switch on her just ground the mag or put her in 5th gear and let her die. Now I hit the starter button and the old girl fires right up wow what a difference. The moral is do something for yourself it sometimes sure can have a satisfying result. JON

Jon, now that it starts good you ight want to rethink that kill switch. could be embarrasing to have it start when you didn't intend fot it to. I was tightening the chain coupling that connected an old 2 cylinder Wisconsin to a generator one time and was turning the shaft by inserting the allen wrench in the set screw and using it for a lever to turn the shaft so I could more easily reach the other screws when it unexpectadly started. Never did find that wrench.

Hi Jon, I guess your temps were below zero this morning in NY. I had 4 above. I had a Wico mag that had a weak spark even with new points and condenser. I took it into where I worked and they
installed it on a German made machine for testing
mags. They said the coil was weak and picked a new coil from a box full under the bench. This guy started grinding on that coil to make it fit.
I said won't that ruin that coil, he said if it does we have plenty more. What a difference with that new coil. After that, I removed the mag in the fall since I didn't use the tractor in the winter. When the Army went to all diesels they scrapped the mag tester. The M47 and M48's used 4 mags on those engines.

The man that installed that coil had a son that took over my job when I retired and he has 42
years of service. He also has a 1937 Lincoln car that was owned by his late dad and it has the V12
engine. He had the engine redone at a machine shop in Baltimore 6 or 7 years ago. Have a Happy New Year, Hal

I'm sure you heard all the stories about the mechanics car that won't run, the bodyman drinving around with a rumpled fender, etc. We just don't have time to work on our own stuff!

I can attest to that! I've got a Woodmizer and have sawn over a million feet of lumber, but never have any around. When I need to plug a hole in the pig pen, I gotta scrounge around for some crummy old plywood.

I started the old girl up a couple months ago to saw out the roof boards for my new tractor shed, and put up a few thousand feet extra of boarding and 2x4, 2x6, 2x8. I hid it so the neighbors can't see it and come borrowing, but to no avail. Once they heard the mill running, wagon loads of logs started pulling into the yard for sawing. I slowed that down by pointing out I was low on firewood, and would be taking THICK slabs!
