The Diesel 454 has 3 of the same cylinders that an 826 has 6 of.( and later 886's etc) The 4-cyl version of these were used in many IH's from the 664 up to and including the 5120. Over a 5 in stroke. Good tractor.

I've got a 454 gas, it's a great little tractor. Moving round bales, blading, raking, tedder, it's great. A little light for moving loaded hay wagons....but it holds it's own. Nice having the syncho trans so you can speed up and slow without stopping. It was pretty abused before I got it, rebuilt at around 6,500 hrs, runs good.

Hi, my brother has had a 454D since 1972.
Great motor, has 15,000 + hrs on it. No major problems, a couple of water pumps, fuel injector return lines and main seal on drive shaft of injector pump, 2 clutches, bearings and pressure plates. Has had the usuall problems with power steering leaking under the dash and air in the brakes.
Is very careful with parking brake, always releasing before moving tractor.

Great utility tractor. The pump can be turned up to about 50 HP.

My 2 cents.
