Anyone here ever turbocharged an 856? Any major or minor differences between the D407 And DT407?

I know of many with that setup. I was told by my friend, who is my local IH dealership's head mechanic, that he would not hesitate to put a turbo on a DT407 with the dual oil jets. I believe the bull gears and a few other things are bigger in the rear end of the 12 and 14's than the 8's. I know the 12 and 14's had bigger brakes and clutches and cooling capacities, but I know of many turboed 856's that are virtually problem free. To answer your question, Hayseed, there is indeed a big difference between the D407 and the DT407. The DT is turbo ready, I would be cautious and get some advice if you would like to turbo the D407. I'm not a huge techie on that stuff. Good luck!!!

I have turboed 806 and 856 the difference is the larger oil cooler on the left side of the engine and more cooling in the radiator on 1256&1456 plus a larger air cleaner system.I ran my 856 at 125hp.never had a problem with the engine but took out a ring gear and pinion. The mayjor killer is heat .

ejr: I was always under the impression that the rear in the 8s were the same as the 12 and 14s. I was told that a DT407 has another set of nozzles in it to spray oil on the cylinders and the standard 407 has one set with plugs in the other lube holes.
