Hey
Does anyone know if it's possible to rig up a W-6 with with a 3 point hitch assembly? I've seen it done on other tractors that didn't originally come standard with it, but it always ends up being a later addition that was always homemade. Not that there's anything wrong with this in fact but does anyone know if this could be purchased as an extra cost option for this model? Also if anyone has any patterns or plans to convert this model to 3 point hitch could they pass them on my way? Pictures are also appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Allan

Allan,

I remember my dad buying one of these old sisters new in the early 50s.

Implement company unloaded it at 10am one day and by 9am the next morning it was traded off again.

Just not too practical unless you are a dry lander and wanna tug with that drawbar. :>)

I believe the Australian built W6's had a 3 pt hitch. In my opinion REAL W6's Don't have 3 pt hitch. Better buy a newer tractor with it on it. 3pt requires a follow up linkage inside for lift control not just an up and down lever.

We got one, it just needs the top link added on. it is some kind of homemade thing, i'd get a pic but its in the back corner of the shed, and i cant get in the shed cause of the snow. There is a different seat on ours and no platform. we were thinking of putting a blade behind it, but we just might put it back to original. never did have the thing going up and down.

That's a fast hitch, not a 3 point -- just shows what can be done, though.

IH didn't start putting any kind of universal hydraulic hitch on their production tractors in the USA until 1954, and then it was the Fast Hitch, not 3 point. IH really didn't start selling tractors with 3 point in the USA until the '06 series in 1963, with the exception of some Eurpoean models that were imported.

Anything on a letter-series or W-series tractor from the '40s and '50s is going to be an aftermarket add-on. The only aftermarket 3 point conversions I know of are for Farmall models.

Frankly, I don't know if putting a 3 point on a W-6 is practical... Where are you going to attach it? The Farmalls have square axle housings that are out in the open. On a W-6, you would have to do some serious modification to the platform and hitch area to get to anything solid to mount the 3 point hitch. PLus, you'd have to design and build it yourself.

Big John, that super C is a Little Garden Tractor not a W6. Seriously the Steel Wheeled Farmalls all had some kind of a hitch that raised cultivators, that was what they where built for. The 10/20's 15/30's and the W tractors where built for wheel trip lift implements but our 51 W6 has factory Hyd and we had a new ace bottom plow to go with it.

C's and Super C's were drilled for fast hitch. If I had know that when I bought a 3-point for my C, I may have tried to find a fast hitch.

Your 51 Super C either had it added or it aint no 51. I have a 51 with it and it looks like it has been there since day one but it was installed at a dealer about 50 years ago. They also tossed the original battery box with the seriel tag( bummmer). Check all of your casting codes to date the tractor if your tag is also gone.
