I was just thinking we dont know what kind of work was done to your motor but check what every one else is saying along with valve lash adjustment if nothing works I think I would try The deal wher you pump the cylinder up for like when you are putting valve seals in a car motor. There is a fitting that screws in where the plug goes and with both valves closed you could put air to the cyl and take the spring and keeper off with out the valve dropping. Any ways I would see if she will hold pressure. Last resort maybe. JON

Hi Jon, I still have one of those valve spring compressor's to use when you apply air to a cylinder.

Once you got No1 cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke, I'd would go through the firing order with ignition key on and the next
sparkplug wire connected to a plug until that plug
fired. It was very easy with a helper rotating the engine with a ratchet. I was changing the valve seals. Have a Merry Christmas, Hal

This is a leak down test if it's done with a leak down tester and its a good way to look for engine troubles or to determine how "good" an engine actually is in terms of % overall cylinder leakage(rings/cylinder and valves). One can use it to diagnose a problem by finding where the air is leaking to, either into the sump, intake or exhaust at TDC or other piston positions on the compression stroke. Pressures around 100 psi are used so you do have to be careful to secure the crank at other than TDC and should you choose not to secure at TDC at least beware it can roll over suddenly if not right on top, TDC.

pull all the plugs and do a compression check on all 4 cylinders. Check for spark on #3 cylinder.

Assuming :>} that your valves were ground as part of the rebuild, that leaves the distributor cap, valve adjustment or a flat cam lobe on that cylinder.

If it isn't the cap, it's in the valve train somewhere.
