It stands for New Old Stock. Basicly means that the parts have never been used, but are many years old.

Herb, NOS in the world of muscle car restoration, means NEW OLD STOCK. as said earlier new parts that was never sold and in many cases discontinued. thats my two cents!

Becarful on NOS parts. I ordered NOS brake hoses for a 1936 Graham car. They snapped like candy canes when I tried to bend them. So from then on I stick to only NOS parts that can't rot, harden, detererate, fall apart, etc. (all metal)

You triggered something in my mind. I have heard of "New Obsolete Stock" too. I'll bet that's where the acronym originated.

Herb, I never dreamed that so many tractor guys didn"t know what NOS means. What it stands for is", Never On Sale. You will understand this much better when you buy "NOS" parts.

Herb,

I'll put it this way:

When I was a young man, I taught myself how to send and receive morse code so that I could listen to and understand the shortwave radio broadcasts that would come in from around the world and that we could listen to at night on the old battery powered radio (the only signal that really came in well that far out in the country).

As with about everything else with me and my old fashioned ways, it turned out to be a totally wasted effort and useless dribble with the never ending passing of time.

But, I say to you now:

.../---/...

That means SOS. HELP!!! :>)

Allan

Allan, Only because you"re being ganged up on am I going to say this. NEW OLD SERVICE. Actually, I think the other guys are probably right, but it was more than a feller could stand to see you hanging out there all by your self.

Allan, you being in the medical field, you should inow that SOB stands for "shortness of breath". See? Nobody was calling you anything after all. Have a good one.

Harley,

I'll put that in one of my reports and see if it'll fly!

I know we use the term often while dealing with the reams of paperwork generated by medicare. :>)

Do you have two B's?

I have two old B's. That second old B is not in good shape. The SOB can really be hard to start.

Allan, I"m afraid that if we were standing side by side in the same room and someone hollered, "There"s the S.O.B.", I"d think they were pointing at me. I"ve not seen S.O.B in any of the parts manuals but I"m sure they are there since I have used that term to describe a number of parts when they are either unco-operative or cause beat up knuckles.

Looks like it's going to be a plain brown Christmas up here in NE SD. This morning it's 2 above with no snow. First time I can remember that we've offically started Winter like this.
(Regardless what NOS is, it's always "Neat Ol' Stuff".)☺☺☺ Happy Holidays to Everyone!

Supposed to be 9 degrees later this week, so we'll see how the "warm country" Farmalls start with a little chill.

I vote for "New Old Stock" too.

But with acronyms, who really knows, it is the same meaning. Old new parts not yet installed.
