Filter manufacturers list the 300 C169 as using both the drop in element and a spin on filter. Is there a way to convert to a spin on? Is there a kit offered? Would rather not add one of those remote mount bases...there are enough hoses with the loader attachment as it is,dont need any hanging off the engine too.

There is an online listing of the spin-on filters and the related kits for IH engines/tractors at:

Thanks,I ordered one up.Thats one easy way to "modernize" vintage machinery. The replacement WIX filter it is uses is 51051 which surprisingly is also listed under the 300 tractor applications along with the stock drop-in.Either IH offered a kit back from day one,or WIX realizes that kits exist and must be pretty popular. That filter also fits Bobcats and other equipment.

Your local CNH dealer can order the spin on kits. They consist of a spin on base that mounts to the filter base in the block. There are no hoses involved. Cost is around $50.

Do they also fit the letter series tractors, or is there a different adapter for them? That would make changing oil filters a lot easier!

CNH makes the kits for all IH engines that had canister type oil filters. Different part numbers for different engines, but the same basic design. Not sure if they all use the same spin on filter though.

If you are talking about the engine oil filter, there is no advantage to changing, except maybe a minute less work. To answer your question, yes there are kits, someone else can tell you where.
