Just curious, what was the biggest and smallest IH with TA and what was the first and last year TA was produced? Thanks, Glenn F.

If you want to get real specific, there were two different types of TA's. The mechanical TA came out in 1954 in the Super MTA, and was last used in the 686 in 1980. The smallest tractor it was ever used in would probably be the 330 as the other guys said. Biggest tractor it was ever put in would be the 80 horsepower 660. The Hydraulic TA came out in 1963 in the 706 and 806. It was used in the 3088 series and the 6088 series 2+2's right up until the end in 1985. As for the smallest tractor it was ever in, I'd say the 706, but some of those little British utilities may have also had it. Rick's probably right about the 6788 2+2 being the biggest.

K.B. Kind of wondering why no has mentioned the 7288. I actually know very little about the 7288. Just wondered if it was different or just forgotten in this thread.

You are also right about European tractors 574 and 584, not sure on 484. I do know the 574 and 584 have the hydraulic TA and don't free wheel.

My Farmall ignorance is showing, but is the 330 smaller than the 300 that replaced the SH? What years was the 330 made? Thanks, Glenn

Glenn: 330 was built during same period as 130, 230, (330), 350 and 450. If I remember correctly, it only appeared during later half of that production run. 340 in the next series is mechanically the same tractor.

I don't know what the biggest or last would be. The first was the Super MTA (1954), the smallest I would guess was the 330U.

CBL: I think both are the same, same engine anyhow. 330 was only Utilty 340 came in Farmall as well as Utility.

Hugh is right in that 340 Utility and 330 utility are about the same size. Both use 135 engine rated at 2000 rpm. I-330 gas utility, wt 3924#, 31.77 dbhp, 34.24 belt hp, I340 gas utility, wt 3884#, 31.76 dbhp, 34.74 belt hp.

Not much difference. The reason I said 330U is that Ken Updike's data book says the 330U has 34 bhp, weighs 4000 lbs. 340U has 39 hp, weighs 4300 lbs. 330U was stopgap until the 340U appeared.

CNKS: We also get the same comparison wit A, SA, 100, 130 and 140. In that one they did actually increase the cubic inches, as well as call each one a bit more hp than the last. I still call them all the same, as my SA will lug with my 130 and 140 any day.
