Ok guys, I have figured out the electrical problems on my 44 H. The OEM switch was intermittent, so I bought a new one. Ok so I have power through the positive side of my new 12 volt coil and to the negative side, however once I hook the negative side to the Dist, I don't have any power on the negative side of the coil. I don't know what this means, can you help. Also my Dist. problems was the fact that I did't have the rotor button seated properly and that is why it was wobbing the Dist. cap when the motor was trying to turn over. I set the gap to 0.020 on my new points in the Dist. Once I did that, while the shaft is turning, only one side of the rectangular shaft that spreads the points apart is connecting. During a full revolution of the Dist. shaft, should the points be seperated only once, or four times in one revolution of the shaft? I am making headway but I ran into the power problem at the Coil today.

Tanner,

You are almost there. Electrically you are fine.

Now, adjust the points for .020" when one of the cam lobes is under the rub block. This should make the points break to the .020" gap every time a new lobe comes around.

If it doesn't, the distributor must have bad bushings and this is allowing the shaft to "wobble" and the points are not breaking consistently with each lobe.

Ok, the shaft is fine on the Dist. Ok do you set the point gap when the corners of the rectangle shaft is pushing the the little rubber spacer, or do you set the points when the rubber spacer is resting against the flat side of the rectangle shaft? Because I set the point gap when the corner side of the rectangle shaft is pushing the rubber spacer for its 1/4 of the revolution.

The reading at the negative side of the coil is correct. The coil grounds through the points and there will be no voltage reading there as long as the points are closed. If you turn it over slowly by hand you will see a voltage reading each time the points open. The points will open each time one of the lobes passes under the rubbing block on the points so that would be 4 times per revolution of the distributor shaft.
