After I had completed the Blue Ribbon test procedures, I took apart all the hydraulic valve components on my F 300. I found some bad o rings, cleaned and replaced everything carefully, let the new paint dry and bolted it back together. The "U" shaped steel hydraulic line that takes fluid from the valve to the regulator - leaks (weeps is more accurate}.

I had inspected the line while it was disassembled and the flare looked smooth but not very wide. Talked to a hydraulic shop about making a hose replacement, he couldn't. Is that "U" pipe available, or do I have to have one built? How about the vent cap next to the U?

Boy I hate to tear that whole thing apart again!

Don't you just hate it when the new paint gets an oil leak on it!? Let us know how you make out with it. One of these days I better get my 400 out and hook it up to the blade. No snow for Christmas is ok with me.

Bob

Hi Dick, Try wrapping some teflon tape around the flare nut. Lay back away from the starting threads. If this doesn't stop the leakage try some Gasoila thread soft set sealant. Most plumbing supply houses have this. Their web site is www.federalprocess.com. Just put a light coating on the threads. I use it on flare nuts on brake lines so they're easily remove if you need to. Best stuff I ever found for natural gas
pipes too. Hal

Dick,

Is the weep right at the flare connection?

I had the same trouble with the live pump on my H. Spent an hour going around and cinching up weeping connections.

Thought I had 'em tight enough, but still had to give 'em that little "extra" turn.

Allan

Thanks for the advice, guys. Unfortunately once the thing is back together enough to run the engine-to get hydraulic pressure - you can't get a wrench on the flare nuts!

Steering, throttle, gas tank, all tin work have to come off. So I guess I need to arrange to have new pipe/connectors before I disassemble it again. If it was easier to get into I would try some of the recommended fixes. But will remember them for future reference. Thanks Dick Davis
