Transmission shifted and worked fine, but turned out to have one gear with slight chips out of the ends of a few cogs. I assume this was caused by bad shifting at some time. It does not seem to me that there should be a need to replace this gear for this reason. Am I wrong?

And don't be critical of who damaged it until you are on the highway, have to shift, and can't get the gears to mesh, you will force it in to save your neck.

Hi Michael,

Gears in a manual transmission, especially those in a non-synchromesh type, as these old tractors are, have kind of a rough life.

Range selective gears, both those that engage and those that are engaged with, will always show some nicks, gouges, dings and chips.

If the transmission shifts and operates okay without any strange noises, I'd consider this a completely normal appearance for a used gear.
