How can I determine an old Farmall tractor's value

Hello.

A gentleman I know has asked me to sell his 1946 Farmall Cub tractor. I don't know anything about old tractors, and wonder if anyone can tell me how I might determine its value to give him a reasonable estimate? He thinks its worth $2500, I've seen the ads on this site and it looks to me as if it's closer to $1500, but I'd like to be able to give him a definitive answer and know what to ask if I place an ad here. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful. He said the tractor works fine, but isn't restored, and has a snowplow.

Thanks,

Chris

I sold one earlier this year with a belly mower in pretty good condition with good tires for $1250 here in the South.

Seams like the Cub market as of late has took a nose dive. About a year ago they were going for $2500 at least. Now it seams like around $1200 is normal (without implements). Ive got a 47 (serial 2800)in VERY straight shape and a solid runner. It has a few minor problems like leaks and such but its a cream puff. I dont think I could get $1500 right now so Ill hold on to it. Tractors just dont seam to be selling good right now.

Just wanted to concure with jonesy. Prices in midwest seem to be comming down in the last 6-8-12 months. I think that a lot of "city" folks that got into tractors found out they weren't as mechanical as they had thought themselves to be, and that "fix-up" costs are very high, and wife didn't like that "old piece of junk" sitting in the back yard.

I sold one for $2,500. It was very nice, all there, good paint, straight tin, easy starting, no smoke, good oil pressure smooth running, yellow and white tractor with new rear tires, snow plow, belly mount flail mower and one bottom plow. It might have brought $2,800, who knows.

I should have mentioned that it can't be a 46. Production didn't start until 47.

Hi Chris,

Watched one sell a couple of weeks ago, original old tractor with a belly mount bar mower. It sold for $2650.

If the tractor is complete, not missing any parts, sheet metal straight and no rust pits, tires with at least 50% tread and not weather checked, and the engine does not burn oil or smoke, then I would guess a minimum of $1,000. Add the snowplow and you are probably looking at $1,500. If the tires are better than average, or the tractor has recent tune-up, or other engine work, then the value could increase. It may actually bring the $2,500, but you would have to be patient.

Running cub (with a snowplow even), I see them go for 2500 all the time. 1500 would be a bargain.

I see them sit all the time for $2500. They may be asking that much, but they aren't selling, unless they're show-quality restorations. Even on Ebay they rarely sell for more than $1500-$1600, with attachments, and Ebay is HIGH PRICED.

Unless the Cub has a whole bunch of attachments, Fast Hitch, and is in perfect condition, it's worth $1500 at most.

Watched a early 70s Cub Low Boy (yellow & white) complete with a Woods 5' belly mower sell for $600 about a month ago. It was complete & running but a little rough looking (not much rust but a lot of dents) with miss matched rear tires. This was at a well attended estate auction. Saw its twin in perfect condition (shed kept no dings rust or even sun fade) sell last summer for $1250 at a similar auction. Both in northeast KS.

I agree, a lot of them are for sale at $2500, but they seem to sit a long time.
