I am a directer for a show here in Ohio. This year our featured tractor is Farmall. We are looking for something special that people will want to see. Some sort of tractor that no one has seen before or something rare. That sort of thing. Does any one know of any thing? Thanks

I would say without a doubt that at least a few people would want to see a few of the following: SWD6TA
OS-4
0S-6
0DS-6

Well, at least I would come to see those!

We had Mn IH collectors at our Pioneer Power show a couple years ago. The IH Club, like many others has a "feature" tractor every year at whatever show they attend. Our show featured the "H". It was on our show button, and H owners were encouraged to display their tractors. Another fun item was we invited former IH dealers, mechanics, partsmen, salesmen, etc., to the show, and we had an area set aside for them to sit and visit with old acquaintences and tell a few stories.

Maybe you could get IH's famous turbine powered tractor with the hydro.. that might be a stretch though. You could also cater to those guys who to custom tandem tractors...or feature the 2+2s, or the 1468s.

Phantom nothing. There is such a thing as a SHTA. We have pictures. :)

The question is whether or not IH ever made any.

Our local show featured a tractor square dance that was well received. There are a few groups around that practice and perform for others.

Like little john says having machinery in action always draws attention. We bring a threshing machine and several wagon loads of cut wheat to our show every August. Over the course of each day we belt a variety of old tractors to the thresher and do short threshing runs. Similarly we’ll bring in an old time sawmill, shingle mill, hay press or whatever else we can arrange and belt ‘em to old tractors and run demo’s with these too.

We also provide a couple hay wagons to hook to old tractors. They then provide free “hayride” tours around the show grounds.

A Baker fan (or better yet a PTO dynamometer if you can get one) is good too. At one show I visited last summer they had a large pump that could be belted to various tractors and steam traction engines. The pump drew water from a small pond, and delivered it thru a fire hose to a nozzle which shot a water stream in an impressively high arc back into the pond.

Key is to have something that can make the tractors work so show goers can see, hear, smell, etc old iron in operation!

We have machinery for the tractors to run. We have a sawmill, shingle mill, baker fans 3 of them, rock crusher, dynometer, threshers, balers grist mill, concrete block maker. What I'm looking for is something like a rare peice of equipment. Something big. One year we had a Wheelis bearing tractor ( Ithink that's how it is spelled) it was a huge tractor with like 8 ft wheels. That seemed to bring in more people. We also have steam engines running daily. But I think people are wanting to see some new things at the show instead of the same things.
thanks for all the great ideas.....

Ahh – I understand now!

Well I’ve visited a few shows that arrange for, advertise and feature an obscure or unusual tractor as a “headliner”, for example an MM UDLX or a Waterloo Boy. Or you can gather as many of an obscure brand (like Silver King or Lanz Bulldog). Or gather as many as possible
of an unusual tractor type, e.g. hi-crops or shop mules.

Here in western NY state (where winter seems to last 7 months...) a mounted cotton picker is always a novelty. One turns up in a 4th of July parade here every summer – few people even recognize what it is. Conversely if you’re in the deep south something like a “Sno-Go” highway snowblower, a highway dept plow/salting rig or an ag tractor modified for municipal sidewalk snow plowing (which are ubiquitous around here) might draw some attention.

A model #39 rollover plow is a good attention getter if it"s being used.

I seldom see a pull-type combine in action, and I think working machinery is always an attraction.

Howard! Boy did you bring back some memories on your website of Plow Days. I was raised in southwest Iowa about straight east of you, and they don't even plow anymore, but I remember when they did and it was more fun than anything else on the farm to do. Dad had an H and two M's and it looked like a herd of bumble bees out there making the dirt black. And yes sometimes he would have us out there before the last snowflake fell. Can't understand how it could get that cold sitting on a tractor, but with the wind blowing invariably in your face, by noon you were just about stiff. Excellant pictures. Thanks a lot, Allen
