Try using another plug wire or plug to see if you still have the same problem. Swap with another cylinder.

Check dist terminals for corrosion, should be clean.

Had a plug fouling problem on my M, it turned out that the choke butterfly was closing independent of the rod. So I was running with my choke out and didn;t know it.

Are you burning an alcohol blend in the tractor? I have had some success with slowing down plug fouling by using an alcohol blended fuel. The alcohol burns a little cleaner (Oxygenated fuel) than straight gas thereby slowing or even eliminating plug fouling. The alcohol blend will also get rid of any water in your tank (might be good, might not), and will also loosen any other “crud” and start it moving towards the carburetor. I didn’t/don’t have problems with these blends but my tanks were always clean too. :>)

The hotter plugs others mention should also help.

Hi Phil, Is that plug fouled from oil? You may have oil getting past the rings if it is. If your plug is too cold, the hotter plug may fix the problem it unless it's covered in oil. Hal

If you are using D-15Y plugs, a D-18Y on that one cylinder should be enough hotter to make a difference. If you"re already using D-18Y"s, then go to D-21 on that one. This often solves the problem and for much less than an overhaul.
