Hmmmmm,

Thinking very seriously about finding a couple of 966 badges and painting this '76 model the traditional colors and doing away with that black stripe.

'Spose the Farmall police will come get me? :>)

I just can't warm up to that darned black stripe color scheme.

Allan

Might be off topic here just a bit, but I have a 1977 Camaro that I had painted with a 1975 color scheme (sort of a copper color with black spoiler) like the one I had in college. The bow-tie police haven’t taken me away yet, of course they probably haven’t figured it out yet since the body styles are almost identical between those two years! If you want your 966 to look like the one you had before (as I did my Camaro) paint it that way. It’s still an approved IH color scheme, just from a different year of production.

BTW. I saw a picture of an H disguised in green paint that was sent to infiltrate the ranks at a green tractor show. The disguise didn’t work well, the green guys noted the smooth even running motor and the IH guys noted the absence of the alien looking lever on the right side called a hand clutch! :>)

Have a good one!

Allan, My vote goes for the traditional red and white paint scheme. With one addition I have always hated the solid red front wheels, Tip out the front wheels lip in Aluminiun paint..
As someone else has said, Git-er-Done.

What ever you want to do, it's your tractor. It will still be a SWEET tractor if you leave a black stripe or put badges on it. I will tell you of a FARMALL SIN! Here in Ont, in the SWOTPA(South Western Ontario Tractor Pullers Assoc. There is a 560 painted Green and yellow, now would that qualify for a Farmall sin? It is called $ex change. He don't pull very good either.

"GIT-R-DONE"!!!!

Geesh, how good would you pull if you were painted green? I"m sure that 560 feels the drag. What an albatros to have hanging around a fine tractor"s proverbial neck.

Shoot, that's easy- just paint the black stripe on one side and the red with white panel on the other side! Then you can park it one way or another depending on who's coming to visit. Also, by walking up to it from different directions, you might be able to fool yourself into thinking you have two of them!:)

Allan, When IH began using the white paint on the 50"s series, I was so disappointed that they could take a perfectly good red tractor and screw it up by adding a white grill insert and white side panels. When they finally came out with the black stripe, I became an instant admirer of the white paint I thought so un-IH before. The black stripe, in my opinion, just never cut the mustard. While it may compromise the originality, you have my solumn blessing to go with the white accent as opposed to the less than appealing black stripe..... ...Sumptn tellz me my opinyun aint gonna matter a twit, az I"m sure youre gonna smear whichever shade of paint you want on the ole girl.

I am the exact opposite..... ....I prefer the black stip for two reasons.

#1- Everyone who sees it will know it has MORE POWER because of the stripe!

A- Looks Better IMO, tractor is easier to paint, and it will be worth more as a genuine "Striper".

I never did like the black stripe either. You notice IH didn't use the black stipe on the 86 series tractors. You know they would have if it were that popular.

Hi Lance,

I mean, they are beautiful tractors and all that, but they just don't reach out and grab ya like the older ones did. In my opinion.

Hi Mike,

Thanks, but thats' not my tractor. :>)

Just a picture a fella was good enough to send me so I would know the proper paint scheme.

No, nowhere close to the Platte, but on a clear day, I've got a real fine view of poverty hill. :>)

Allan, it's your tractor, you can do whatever you want. Please, DO NOT paint it green. All joking aside, I think I have to agree with you on the black stripe, never did look right to me either.

Allen, I like em both, but heck I ain't shellin out the peanuts for the ol' girl. I think as long as ya keep it authentic (don't paint it black or silver or some other ungodly pulling tractor color) and stick to that theme throughout the tractor it will be just fine...
Is it a Farmall Sin? Naw, just like a woman gettin her hair colored....as long as the carpet matches the drapes I see no problem.
