Hey guys thanks for the replies. All the wires are new, and I rerouted a couple of them because I had them in the previous position, but those were wrong. Anyway on to the Dist.. My 48 model H has a horizontal Dist., however this 44 H has a vertical Dist., I don't know if this matters, but in regards to it wobbling, the cap is kinda moving as the gears are spinning the Dist. The notch is lined up on the cap to the base, and the rotor button seems to be ok. I am still getting power to the starter motor real good, but nothing else is seeming to get power.

The part numbers I got off of both Dist. that I have are almost eggzactly what they have in my parts book. The base on the Dist. has both a 353899R1 and the other one has 353898R. I couldn't make out all the numbers, but this was the best I could read on there. I believe these both to be IH Dist. and not some other brand. What do you guys think?

I will check on the brand of Dist. Maybe this is the main problem in regards to the wobbling Dist. but I will also check into the breaks in the current and find out where they are in the system. I think I have another Dist. that I can use which I believe is the correct OEM Dist for the H model. I'll keep you guys posted.

distributor part numbers in reply to Tanner Clark, 12-13-2004 12:25:23
I have a vertical Delco distributor on my 48H, and had trouble finding the right parts from NAPA. I thought I would pass on the numbers in case you need them (These are NAPA numbers)
Distributor Cap RR145
Rotor RR83
Points CS763A
Condensor RR174
My local Napa store had them on the shelf

Hope this helps -- Rick

Check to see if you are using the correct rotor. Is your dist a DELCO or a PRESTOLITE as they are not the same as the INTERNATIONAL. It sounds a though your rotor is rubbing against the cap and mite be bottoming out when the cap is on as it should not wiggle when turning. Also mite want to check for the correct cap. The DELCO should have a tag saying DELCO-REMY.

Hi Tanner, I don't think you're getting any battery voltage to the distributor, so follow what Allan has suggested with your test lite or
volt meter. Make sure you have voltage at the switch and keep checking that circuit until you find a broken wire or a loose or corroded connection between the switch and distributor.

Tanner,

Take your test light and start at the ignition switch. Just follow the power out until you find the break in the circuit.

Pretty straight forward trace, I'd think.

Allan

Check the rotor to see that it is fully seated. The distributor cap shouldn't wobble. If you put a new rotor in the distributor you might reinstall the old rotor and see if the wobble stops.

I'd use the test light or multimeter. Disconnect the wire at the distributor. Start at the distributor heading back to the iginition switch checking for voltage. The break (open) will be between the voltage location and the next connection - headed toward the coil or distibutor. Trace the wire from the distributor back to the ignition switch. Then from the ignition switch of a power source - depends on how the tractor was wired - could be the starter terminal or amp meter.

You either have an open (break) some place in the ignition system. Could be a burnt out ballist resister, bad coil, bad electrical wire, poor connection, or bad ignition switch. Is the ignition fused? Or, when you moved the wires one is mislocated.
