Found water in the oil of a Super C. We drained oil and took oil pan and pressurized the radatior to find out where the water is coming from. The water seems to coming from the front of engine where the timing gears are. Are there any seals or gaskets that could be shot? Tractor sat for 2 years without any water or antifreeze in it. Anybody have any ideas. Thanks for your help.

Hi ElToro, I have checked the head bolts and they are tight. I will be getting a new head gasket and maybe taking out the first sleeve and putting new seals around it. I don"t get a chance to work on it but only on the weekends so progress is slow. Will update when progress is made. Thanks for your help.

Hi Paul, I would retorque the head and see if you still have the leakage after retorquing.
Did you check for bubbles in the radiator with the engine running, before you pressurized the radiator?

I had a GM engine that was leaking coolant into the oil and I had bubbles in the recovery tank. I thought it was a blown head gasket, when they magnfluxed the head they found the head to be cracked. This engine was never overheated. I got 3 heads from junkers and they were cracked too. Had to buy a new one "ouch".

There's no reason for water to be around those gears that I can think of that's
getting into the oil pan. You may have to reinstall the oil pan and check for bubbles in the radiator. The head may be cracked. Are you sure that doughnut seal on number 1 sleeve isn't leaking and running down? A cracked head will allow the coolant to contaminate the oil. Hal

As ElToro eluded to, the C is a wet sleeve engine. If the seal at the bottom of the sleeve leaks, the water could be running towards the front of the engine, making it look like it is coming from the timing cover.

Those seals on those sleeves get dry and brittle
from age. It still amazes me that they last as long as they do. Hope that is his problem and not a cracked head or block. Hal

That seems to be an odd place! i don't recall any gaskets into the water jackets there, and if the block cracks it's ussually on the side. I guess you're going to have to dig a little further to find the source for certain. Sorry!!
