Do you happen to be using a battery charger on the 12 volt boost setting? On some battery chargers the voltage isn't controlled. And high voltage will blow glow plugs.

No I dont have a battery charger hooked up I am going back to my dealer and have him double check the part numbers again . they are not suppose to touch the cups but they do . its a real brain picker .

red: The 282 glow plugs usually have exceptional life. In my 560 and 656 I only remember buying a couple of glow plugs, well over 10,000 hours on each.

From this discussion, just wondered if threads may be a bit different on new ones. What about a thread sealer, that would stand heat, so you wouldn't need then in as far. Worth a try. Also maybe some carbon build up inside. Just thoughts.

SR,

Are you sure you have the correct glow plugs?

Allan

yes thats what my dealer gave me . They are the same as the old ones that I took out . I also have a parts motor and I looked at those also and they are the same too. Im really stuck on this one . I asked my dealer and he doesnt know . they screw in just about all the way in . unless the cups are different. but they dont appear to be .

Could there be a brass washer or gasket on top that prevents them from going in too far, and keeps them from leaking?

The glow plugs are NOT supposed to touch the cups. If they are burning out, they are the wrong part number, defective, or for some reason they are being kept energized too long, by you holding in the button, by a defective button, or a short or mis-connection in the wiring.

Dont use thread sealer as they need a good ground to activate properly.Use a test light and position it so you can see it from the tractor seat and test the switch, see that it goes on and off when you use the button. Then drive it around and look to see if it lights up while vibrating down the road, doing at night helps. Test your voltage to the plugs, and compare the voltage to someone elses tractor.Wonder if someone tried to replace them early on and stripped the threads out of the holes and are screwed up somehow.
