I'm well into restoring my grandfathers, now my mothers "A". I have been all over the web and see different options for the seat cover color. What is proper for this tractor. I think it's a 1945 Model. Serial number is FAA 118882. Seat pan is in fairly good shape.

There is a Car restoration place about 20min away from me, You may have heard of them, R&M Restorations. I have seen a H seat done by then, it is nice, the tractor was being restored by a kid, he was killed in a car accident and his brother got the seat redone with his bro"s name on it. Good lookin seat on a good lookin tractor. Not sure how much the seat cost to do.

I have had no problem with reproductions. I will say that if you use canvas, that it won't last. OEM canvas was the first thing to wear out on a new tractor. Shows all grease, dirt, fingerprints, etc, and is impossible to clean. That's one of the few places where I deviate from OEM specs and use vinyl.

Mornin' CN,

Can't go with ya on this one.

That darned vinyl will crack the first time you sit on it in the cold wintertime.

I like the IH originals even tho they do only last 10 or 12 years. :>)

Later,

Allan

The original IH seat I spent many hours on was gone in about 3. I'm a warm weather person, got to be pretty cold and snowed in before I get on one in the winter. But, I don't have to, like you northerners. Seems to either snow where you and NE Cowman are, or south in the Texas Panhandle. Now that I said that, it'll probably snow 10 inches tonight, and I'll have to, or else starve!

Darrell Darst, Moscow Mills MO can recover your original seat. I have not been real happy with reproductions. I believe the 1945 was still black. Email me if you need Darrells number

There is a guy down by ST.LOUIS that will recover your pan with the original type stuff and return your seat to keep it as original as possible for 100 or so. You can buy new ones also for around the same money.

These never had a "seat cover". The factory had a silver canvas type padded seat on the metal pan. I believe a black cloth canvas type material was also available. Not sure on the later. The silver canvas is available from several restoration houses like OEM tractor parts and maybe on here too. K&M manufacturing is the company that makes the seats. You will have to buy them through a dealer like OEM though. All these companies are on the web. Do some searching.
