With William on this one,I have 3 Ms and all get to 160 and then stop,two have the original type thermostats in them.My old working tractor at one time had a 190 in it,I would have left it in if my rad had been in better shape.

According to my CIH service manual on page 73, it states the thermostat will start to open at 165 F and be fully open at 195 F. I don't know if this is what you are looking for or are you asking what temperature thermostat to install?

my new one reads 170 on the gage when full warm.

After reading the synthetic oil thread below I have no qualms about stating an opinion as fact. And, as it happens, I actually believe this to be correct. 160*
