Can anyone tell me if the W-30 is related to the F-30 or 15-30. I know the W4 has engine of H and W-6 is like an M. How about W-30? I am looking for engine parts and wondered if anything interchanged where I might be able to earch a larger population of salvage tractors.

I have a W-30,F-30, and a I-30. It seems kind of odd but all three exit their exhaust in a different location on the manifolds. They are different years, but seem they could have made them all the same. I do need a manifold for a F-30 if anyone knows of a deal that even my wife would approve of, give me a yell. Thanks Dave NE Iowa

These engines can take a beating and still be a minor thing to repair. My F30 started knocking, BAD! I checked through the hand-hole and found the back tray for the crank to dip oil was dry. I removed the pan, cleaned the oiler hole for the tray, removed some babbit off the crank, replaced the crank bearing shell, and buttoned her back together. The cranks in these things are very forgiving.

A W-30 has the same engine as a F-30. The W-30 engine is very close to being a 10-20 engine with a water pump. I believe the engine below the head is identical to a 10-20 engine below the head. Although the hole pattern is the same, a W-30/F-30 head is significantly different from a 10-20 head.
I just finished (are you ever finished) my W-30 and have a few pieces left over plus I have a few 10-20 parts. What parts are you seeking?

F-Dean: My W-30 runs but has a knock in it that is heard only under load and I have not torn it down yet. It sounds like its at the crank and not a wrist pin but I'm no expert. I suspect as a minimum I will need to turn the crank and put in oversized bearings. If the crank is too hammered, I will need a servicable crank. I will probably end up buying a parts tractor to get what I need. Do you have a source for any rod or main bearings??

Taking a crank out of a W-30 is an major job. These engines have two large ball bearing for mains, and you don't just take out the crank like other shell bearing engines. You have to pull the flywheel off the crank and then pull the crank out of the block and then pull the bearing off the crank. Not an overnight thing! I bet that all you are going to have to do is adjust your rod bearings. That is generally all that has gone wrong unless the engine has run some significant time without oil. Especially since you say it only knocks some under load. Should be a very easy fix. Take a shim out one at a time alternating sides of the bearing cap until it's too tight to turn after tightening the cap; then add one more shim back and you should be all set.

Mike is right! It is a major effort. I had to take mine to a machine shop to get the flywheel off. He used a porta-power at 10,000 pounds to pull it off.
Rice Equipment and most bearing suppliers can get the main bearings which are ball bearings. They are not cheap.
