I am considering putting an H4 magneto on my Case SC. My question is: Does anyone know what the position of the impulse coupling lugs will be just as the points are starting to open? Thanks!

The pawlsof the trip hit at about 8 and 2 so thats where your lugs would be. At that point the points are closed and just getting ready to go up on the cam then the mag trips and the points fire. That will put it between 10 and 4 with the points have fired and will be closed again. This is not exact but maybe it will give you an idea. JON

Yes that helps. So when the engine is running above impulse speed, the points are opening when the lugs are around 3 & 9 o'clock positions? Thanks for your help!

Turn the mag BACKWARDS, so the impulse doesn't catch. The point at which the points just barely close is the same point of drive lug orientation where they are just opening at above impulse speed.
