Does anybody know if the cast rims for pneumatic tires both front and rear of a McCormick Deering W30 fit on a McCormick Deering 10-20? Is there any differencies in the shafts or seals etc. I know there was different rims size options for the W30 but the size I would be looking for is 28" on the rear and either 20" or 18" on the front prefferably 20" to be correct.

If you can shed some light on this issue please reply, thanks in advance.

The rear wheel shaft on a W-30 is slightly larger that the rear wheel shaft on a 10-20.

Now that's interesting and would suggest that you can't put w30 rear cast rims on a 10-20 but an earlier group of posting suggest you can put 10-20 rear metal wheels on a W30 the only problem being the W30 rear wheel has a better dust seal that meant the seal would not funstion properly.

Can anyone else comment on this issue?

The rears are only different in the way the axle seals on the wheel. The axle size is the same. A W-30 has an extra stamped metal seal plate riveted to the inside hub that mates to a spring-loaded circular leather seal on the end of the axle. If you put a 10-20 wheel on a W-30 it will fit but will probably run grease out unless you have the rear end almost dry. The front wheels are also not the same but they seem to be able to interchange. I have a W-30 axle with 10-20 cutoffs on it and they fit fine. The dust seal doesn't work but they fit.

Yes Mike but what would be the outcome of putting a W30 wheel on a 10-20 tractor as I am looking to do, would the seal not be better than a original 10-20 rim. Or perhaps I would need to get the spring loaded leather seal and fit that onto the 10-20 rear axle as well what do you think?

DO you think there could be a difference in the 10-20 rear axles over the years of production as "F-Dean" seems to have had a problem getting a 10-20 rim on his W30.

Mike, What year is your W-30? Mine is a 1934. I tried but could not get a 10-20 wheel on. I used a calipers and found a difference in size.

I have a 1937 W-30. I am going to check all this out tomorrow, since I will be out in the barn all morning. I have both to compare to. Kind of got my curiousity up about all this! I also have a very late 10-20 Orchard which used a W-30 front axle, so the rubber rims are actually for a W-30. Gets kind of confusing!

Thanks Mike I would appreciate that at least it may save me making an expensive buying rims that might not fit.
