706 Cold Engine Question

Recently my 706 gas is requiring additional time to warm up in order to move it. If I go to move it too soon it cuts out, it seems as if it is off and I quickly depress the clutch and it goes back to running fine. I assume something is out of adjustment, because it hasnt been all that cold yet (in the 40's).
Once it is warm, it is fine.
The purpose of moving it cold is to walk it out of the shop to warm up (keep from filling the shop with smoke). In the past it only took a minute until I could move it, now it takes several minutes. Maybe I need to start using the block warmer, but in the mid to high 40's? I guess this starts another topic.

Is your heatriser working ????? and also over the years the area down inside the manifold that the exhust gasses are suppose to go gets crudded up and the heat does not get around the intake like it is suppose to and the intake does not warm up as fast , now if ya feel real brave and want to TRY TO THAT THE exhust apart from the intake you would find this but BE WARNED THAT THE BOLTS WILL NOT COME OUT OR IF THEY DO TURN THEN IT MIGHT SPLIT THE EXHUST MANIFOLD NEXT TO THE BOLTS THEN YOU WILL BE MAD AT ME but this is most of the problem . AND also like one said the fuel on a Farmall Gasser one should use the 93 octain .

That's what the choke is for. When you let out the clutch and it starts to die, give it a quick choke, and it will pick right up and run. You may have to occasionally use the choke to keep it running until it's warmed up if you want to move it around cold.

That's the nature of the beast. These aren't fancy-schmancy fuel-injected engines we're talking about here.

i understand but what i'm curious about is i didn't have a problem at all last winter and now this year winter hasn't really started yet (around me anyways). i always do let it warm up before work, but i have to move it about twenty feet out the door so i don't fume up the garage.

Don - Gotta be either a lean condition at the carb, or possibly weak ignition.

First make sure the ignition system is in top condition: New plugs; good, solid copper plug wires; clean, crack-free distributor cap; clean and properly gapped points; timing set to spec, etc.

If the problem persists it’s a lean carburetor condition. First make sure you are using freshly purchased fuel. (If the gas was purchased last summer the lighter fractions have flashed off and what’s left doesn’t vaporize as readily when it’s cold.) Enriching the load mixture can help: Open the load screw 1/8 – ¼ turn. If it’s humid it could also be carb icing (icing is worst right around 35 – 40 degrees). Unfortunately there’s not a lot that will help carb icing when the engine is first started except perhaps to preheat the engine with the block heater.

i hope you get some good answers as i have the same problem with mine. it just started here about a month ago and i can't figure it out. haven't had much rain. very recent tune-up also with CNH parts.

Weve had a lot of rain around here, so it could be that. I had a quarter of a tank with summer gas and topped the tank off with fresh fuel and put heat in it and it still does it. Ill look it over again.

Bad gas mabe, put some Sta-Bil in the gas tank. First drain some fuel from the tank and see if there is any water in it.
