I was reading a previous discusion on this site about putting a M&W pump on an H and one fellow said these pumps would not fit on older H's without changing to a new front housing. I had gotten an M&W pump that came off of an M and was planning to put it on one of the M's I have. Will the M&W pump fit on all M's or only on newer ones. I have a '42, '50, and '53Super. None of them have live hydraulics now. Thanks in advance for any information. I was hoping to put the pump on the '42 model but if it won't work I thought someone might save me the trouble of tearing it apart and finding out the hard way.

M&W pump for M will fit all models.Gas and Diesel not interchangeable though.Lots of M&W
pumps installed without changing original timing gears and still working today.

I beleve the M&W have an elongated hole so that they will fit both. One of the mounting holes is about 1/2 hole off on the early Ms from the SM, 400, 450 pump. When they came out with that change they also put a stronger gear on the cam to handle the stress from the pump. Cover casting ending with an R is the later one.

the serial number break came the later part of 1950 when they changed the front housings on the H's and M's to handle the live pumps. It might work on the 50 model if it is a later model but will work for sure on the super M but not on the 42 without changing the front plate.

How about the beefed up drive gear for the live pump? Was that installed with the new front plate or did it come with the live hydraulic pump? Isn't it true that M& W were more universal as to years of application and it was the IHC live pump that required the new front plate? Don't mean to confuse the issue. My nickel Dick Davis
