IH 656 Light Problem

My 1968 656 lights went out. I tried replacing the switch - no luck. Is there a fuse for the lights, if so, where is it located? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Shep,

At the inside of the left cowl panel, lying horizontally at the bottom, is the power bus.

The wires connecting to this bus will get corroded just like a bad battery connection will often do, sometimes the lugs will even get to the point of turning green and breaking off and thereby breaking your 12-volt power connection.

FWIW, this is also the culprit that started so many of the fires on these 656s.

I would have a new one at the ready before you attempt to take the old one out, because for sure after 40 years, it is going to be broken and corroded, or maybe even just the act of pulling the panel out away from the dash is going to put enough pressure on it to make it give way.

Allan: Don't give him advice like that, damn Farmall lights weren't wired good to begin with. I saw that the first night I operated my 656 and 1066. After 3 hours light switch was so hot you couldn't leave your hand on it. System might have been fine for an M with 3 lights, but no good with 5 or 6. I completely rewired mine 3 circuits with 10 working lights plus flashers.

shep: Vet is right, wire it over and put lights on 2 or 3 curciuts. IH are using same system there as on Super letter series, just too much candle power for that switch.

pull the cowel and start tracing wires and get a GOOD test lite . On most of the tractors that i have worked on with lite problems i have repaced that SFE 20 amp fuse with a self resetting circut braker and on the 06-66 seires i split up the work load of the lite switch with C V relays as i got tired of getting calls at 10:30 at nite from farmers that were working late and there lites went out and weather was setting in.

Right in the dash panel should be a little black fuse holder push in and turn out theirs your fuse 20 amp.

Already Checked that fuse. Any other ideas? Thanks for the info.
