I am a Farmall nut. I didn't grow up on a Farmall but other than that, I'm into it. The tractors, heritage, the whole nine yards. A couple of years ago I joined my state's IH Collector's chapter and attended my first and only meeting so far. It appeared to me that if you weren't in the "click" or already knew someone you were just out of luck. Don't get me wrong I am not a shy person, but this is the toughest crowd I've ever been around. It was as if I was dressed as Bozo the Clown. I guess the one thing that really got me was that the president nor any of the officers or the host member greeted me. This is not a large membership, there were about 50-60 people at this meeting. I would think that in a 4-5 hour period, as president you could figure out if there were new members or visitors there and take time to welcome them. How are we going to pass IH tractors and heritage to the next generation if we don't talk to them. Of course my enthusiasm for Farmalls hasn't lessened but I have had a bad taste in my mouth for two years. Am I wrong? Please give feedback.

Don't feel bad.

When I joined the IH Club, Fl did have a chapter. I emailed the chapter prez for info on joining that chapter.. never got a response.. so I ended up joining the worldwide with no chapter affiliation. I figure there is noo need for a chapter if they can't even respond to an email on asking how to join..

Bozo: Go along to years end and don't bother to pay your membership, amazing how quick you will be remembered. A lot of organizations get like this, wake up calls will not hurt them.

Perhaps next time you could try placing a large IHC symbol on the end of that red nose of yours. They'll probably be on you like flies on stink.

It could be worse.
You could belong to the Har-Parr-Oliver group.

Here's a different way of thinking about this, from soneone who's been on the inside and outside of cliques:
1. Do they realise they're doing this? Some folks just aren't outgoing.
2. Are there other groups within the chapter? The non-clique folks?
3. Even if they are a bunch of numbnuts who just like to be important, are they still delivering to the chapter-good events, plow days, and the like?
4. Are you going to the events?

I'm a member of one organization (non-IH club) that has it's groups. It took awhile but eventually what I could bring to the organization was recognized, and I was accepted. Then the fun begins of getting the new people accepted.

bozo, Some State clubs might be very much that way but I have run into others that are very nice indeed. Don't get discouraged, just find another group.

Yikes...that doesn't sound like a good group of folks at all. I went to a local antique machinery dinner with my wife last year, and we were welcomed warmly by all. It was a real hoot. Sorry you've had such a different experience.

I'm a big believer in the 10% factor...in any particular group, 10% will be these types. Maybe you just happened to run into a statistical anomaly where the percentage was way higher ;-).

I also agree with what others have said -- this site represents a really great community of very helpful, upbeat people. If you can't find 'em locally, at least you can get to 'em virtually.

I look at tractor clubs as sort of a social outing. I don't belong to one as I am at least 250 miles away from the meetings. Nearly all of what I have learned is from this forum, plus my LONG ago association with Farmalls as a kid. So in a way, this is a club.

You didn't mention what state you're from, but maybe there's another chapter not too far away--even across state lines--that you could join to enjoy the IH fellowship.

If you really want in, why not attend more meetings. Just go and listen. Introduce yourself around. They'll bring you into the fold after a while. Like attending a new high school. You probably won't feel welcome the first day. Course if you really are a Bozo maybe it won't work.

Bozo,

I've been were you are at. Run, don't walk away from this bunch. They are not worth your time and or your energy.

You certainly don't need 'em; 'cause you've got us.

I'm with Allen. There are Dips everywhere. You have got this place full of fine people. I have had trouble elsewhere on line but great people seam to be here ready to help. My advice is take your favorite piece of red iron to a local show and they (the ones worth your while) will come to you.
