Sorry about the confusion before. My pistons measure 3 7/16 but I wrote it down under my block bore, that is 3 9/16. So if I get this right? All I need is to order the right size "piston and sleeve kit" and the sleeves will come to match? And going from the flat tops to the step heads, since I do have the gas head won't change anything. I keep getting asked the part number from my old pistons, which I have, but i don't want flat top pistons and I'm afraid if they use that number I won't get what I want.

Hi Brian, I called this company to verify that price. What they quoted on was for one piston and sleeve. A set costs $625.00. Sorry for the screw up. Hal

Hi Brian, Call this toll free number in PA for
a price on a sleeve and piston kit. 1-800-732-0017. I gave them the piston diameter of 3&7/16"
and they quoted a price of $155.00. This place
is an IH dealer and they have 2 dealerships in PA and 2 in Delaware. Ask for the farm equipment parts dept, they have garden tractors too. Hal

Brian,

You should be able to tell this guy that you have an engine with a standard 3 9/16" block bore and that you want a set of pop-up piston/sleeves to fit.

He sould forget about the diameter of the pistons for now, what you are really concerned about is marrying those sleeves to your block; that's the stickler. The pistons will fit the sleeve.

Or, maybe he is trying to cross-reference your old pistons to make sure that the block has not been overbored? Local parts house or over the phone?

Allan

Thanks Allen. It was at my local Tractor Supply. My local Case/IH dealer wanted well over six hundred for the parts, just pistons and sleeves. The guys they hire for these Tractor Supply stores can't do anything unless they can look up a part number to order from. But they can at least get the parts for less then 400. I have even thought of ordering them from this site, any thoughts or experiences.

Hi agian,

I hear you there. I've really been thinkin' about trying this www.batescorp.com place next time. I need a fender and both left and right steps for my latest project.

Their prices seems almost too good to be true as compaired to other places for new parts. Wonder if they are pushing China produced stuff?

Allan

Allan, about 2-3? years ago I found what I needed there for a SM at a reasonable price. Used engine part tho, not sheetmetal/steps.
