Hello,

Been a longtime visitor to this board, but haven't posted in years.

Got a 966 with nonfunctional hydraulics when frozen. Has to warm up for a long time before steering or the loader begins to work. The fluid is only a couple years old at most, good quality. Any water is drained regularly.

After searching this board, this solution that comes up the most is checking the filter. Couple guys talked about dumping 3 or 4 bottles into the oil.

Anybody have any comments?

Thanks, Chris

We had a 1066 that did the same thing, tried everything to fix it. Found out last winter that it was our hydraulic pump. The gear on it was spinning on the shaft and was not pumping the oil, but after the oil warmed up and was thinner it would work. Hope this helps. Paul

Chris next time pull the filter if there is that much ice in there you will see it.

Hi Chris,

Change your oil and filter.

If it's freezin', it's freezin'. It's gotta have moisture in it, seems to me.

Thanks for the replies. I left out a word above. I wanted to say that a couple people have dumped 3 or 4 bottles of HEET into the tranny oil. To help support the water.

I'll check the filter.

Thanks, Chris B.

I had the hydraulics freeze on my 706 ger. because of water. It wouldnt lift the bale fork. Over $900. for repairs at the CIH shop. I think they replaced every o ring in there at least three times. So mabe point a Salamander toward the rear end and warm it up some.
