I have a 656 Hydro my dad had bebuilt just before his death. He spent a great deal of money on getting it fixed because it would not pull when hot.
Now, after just 30 minutes of light work such as mowing the thing starts to slow down and not pull.
I know I have done all I can, and he had just gotten it rebuilt 200 hours ago...any ideas?
I have never been around a Hydro that much, but do not want to get rid of it becaause it was dad's.

Need to isolate the hydro from the drive control valve and foot-inch valve. Remove the two steel lines from the left side of the hydro housing and cap the fittings coming from the housing. Don't worrym about plugging the lines only a small amount of oil will come out.Use the tractor like you do and see what happens. Be careful because with the fittings capped the foot-inch valve won't stop the tractor. Will have to use the S-R lever to stop the tractor. If hydro pulls good problem in drive control valve or foot-inch valve. If pulls the same trouble in hydro then need to run flow-rator check on center section. If want tractor fixed email me. Will give more info.

Will try to help you. First thing don't put in thicker oil. Might check foot-inch vavle adjustment. Pedal shouldn't come against platform. Would like to know what was done on the hydro overhaul. If the valve plates.bearing plates, pump block and motor block weren't refaced that could be your problem. There is a easy way to test this unit. Get back with me and I will explain how

I will check the adjustment Gary, I have no idea of what he had done. He pulled the entire unit out and took it to a man in Tennesse for rebuild. I know he spent a stack of money on it,

The Hydro pump filter mihgt be stopped up. Or mabey needs new hydro oil. For not to be pulling the oil is getting thin. so try i thicker oil. It might help. Get back with me if you need anymore help.

no...I do not think so Cowman. Guess I had better look tonight. I am new to this thing. It moves awful slow to be in a high range. Like I said...it does fine until it gets warmed up.

Thanks Cowman...I will look it over. I want to keep it like I said.
I am like some of you guys all at once. I am tractor poor by adding dad's tractors to the collection.
I wanted to try and get this one right because he really liked it.
