OK, If I decide to buy the 560 gasser, How difficult would it be to put in a D-282? Does it take the same clutch and is the bellhousing the same?
How about the clutch release stuff, will it interchange?
The present owner has told me that it does use a lot of fuel when using it hard.
I think I know of a parts tractor with a diesel and a wide front I could possibly get reasonable.
Or,
Should I just wait for a nice Diesel to come along?
Opinions welcome.

I have 2 560 gas and a 460 Diesel (with a 282 motor) and I love them but when I had a chance to buy a 560 Diesel yesterday with wide front, fast hitch, and very straight sheet metal for 2k it was done in a very short time. The 560 with a diesel puts out good power,is not that bad on fuel and can do the job of lots more expensive tractors. The resale value is much higher on the diesel in our area and I personally think the 60 series tractors were some of the most eye appealing iron to ever come out of I.H. They also hold their own very well on the pulling track should you ever venture into that dark abyss. I have a 460 diesel tractor with wide front that is in pieces but all there with 2 extra 282 motors that I just quite can't decide to sell. I guess I get married to these stupid things! Migraine

Migraine:

Any time you want to part with one or both of those 282"s it would be great to have one. My dads 59 has a broken crank and a few other problems, no use startng on them until I have a different engine.

I am doing the opposit switch and I was wondering if I could use the diesel flywheel and starter on a gas engine?

You can always buy the 560 gas and use it until you find a diesel. Then at leaset you have something big enough to do what you want. If you do not find what you want you still have the 560 gasser. If and When you find a dsl you are happy with just resale the 560 gas and get some of your money back. Just my opinion, Hope this helps. Charlie

The difference you will find is and have to change.Air cleaner and pipes, need a diesel return line back to the tank, glow plug meter and wires, diesel starter, fuel shut off cable, throtle rod, generator on oposite side. The diesel has a oil cooler that should come with the diesel motor all the rest is a direct bolt in.If the diesel engin comes out of a combine you may have to change the oil filter base.
