Mornin' all you Guys,

I'm goin' to an auction today and am going to try to buy a nice old farm truck. First farm sale I've been to since I had to sell out in March of '83.

This feels really weird after all these years. :>(

Yep, dress warm. For me, it seems I can't wear enough clothes if I'm outside in this weather with no physical activity to keep me warm. Sitting at a football game or attending a farm auction certainly fits the bill here.

Farm auctions were a staple of my childhood. When Dad got the farming bug in the early '60s, he took me and multiple sisters to a number of auctions. The auctions seemed always to be in the dead of winter and we typically froze to death while Dad collected what he needed to get started with the farm be it livestock or equipment.

The saving grace for us tag-along kids that helped us kill the boredom and keep our minds off being cold, was the befriending of the one or more farm dogs at these auctions. We would pass the time playing with these pets. One of these sales had a mommy dog with several six-week-old pups. We had fun that day herding the pups from one pen to another.

I always though Dad was the essence of 'cool' at these auctions. As most old war horses go, he was not very demonstrative which made it hard for me to tell he was bidding on something. The only signal I got that Dad was in on the action was the auctioneer or helper looking at the Old Man. Dad's only acknowledgment of a bid to the auctioneer was a barely imperceptible nod intermixed with very smooth and calm looks at his checkbook. Poker face comes to mind.

Good luck.

Allan: I checked that site I was telling you about, half dozen 766s for sale. One in NE, 2 in SD, 1 in ME, 1 in ON, those are ones I remember. Only the one in ME was open station. Couple of others were almost open station, just a torch job away.

As others said dress warm and good luck on truck.

Allen-- you may as well bid on the 1949 cub while your there. Looks like the only red tractor on the bill.

Mornin'

Don't want the cub; just never liked the darned things. :>)

What's that truck gonna bring? I can sure live without it, but I'm not gonna let 'em give it away either. :>)

Steve,

Yes Sir, but this is wheat country and this truck is set up for wheat. I think she is going to bring a premium.

The only good thing I can see is that it needs $800 (?) worth of tires; that might knock 'er down a bit.

Hi Rau,

Yep, think it will bring all of that.

Went over and looked at it last week; has the small engine and it sure looks like the original tires.

Still, this is wheat country and the guys like to use these things to nurse their drills.

Thanks Pard,

Allan
