I pull alot with my 400, and having a couple extra hundred lbs on the front isn't easy without powersteering. The hyd. pump is a few hundred PSI below, so the valve won't work the power steering, but the hyd. Can i make something so the powersteering work and not the hyd. outlets? I always wondered on super H's and M's, or aftermarket systems, if they just had the pump hooked onto the powersteering and no spool, or if there is somekind of releif valve? Any way to make this work, like holding the divider valve in the open position, or would that hurt the power steering?

I haven't worked on the power steering system on one of these old girls but have driven tractors where the PS works great. There is supposed to be a priority valve in the system that is supposed to divert the majority of the hydraulic flow under demand. If this is adjusted right then everything should work properly. When the pump gets old and tired it isn't much better than no PS.

Bryce - I'm wondering if your flow divider isn't messed up or installed wrong. It should work the opposite from what you are seeing under low pump output conditions. I.e. it should cut off pressure to the remote outlets while still providing flow to the steering motor.

Incidentally on the Super M with the live hyd pump-powered Charlynn system, the steering motor is fed via a priority valve (flow divider) in hyd pump output line.
