I.m trying to put my newly aquired 300 back in service. Overall it runs great although i still have a few things to run down. my question is this; when i checked the gear boxes the oil was thin like motor oil and was merkie like it has a little water in it. would this be caused from condesation since its been set up for quiet some time. (as far as i can tell) i can't figure any where else it could get water, also should i replace the gear oil with standard 90 weight or would sythetic gear oil be better. also is the 2 point quick hitch exclusive to farmall implements of that day or will most 3 point implement work with the added third link. It is set up for use with a third link as well so i wasn't sure. Thanks for any info you can provide

Rick the book will call for 90W but that has not been used formore than 40 years. Best to use Hy Tran for the TA also OK for the PTO.

The lower links need the fast hitch prongs with the 3 point holes or balls in them to use 3 point implements.

It sounds like you need to change the oil in the gearboxes. Remove the drain plug and let it drain overnight to be sure it all comes out. Replace the oil with Hy-Tran, available from your Case-IH dealer. Hy-tran substitutes are also available from places like Wal-Mart, farm stores, auto parts stores, etc.

With the TA you want to use HyTran or a substitute (others claim HyTran only). The Manual for a 300 will call for 90W but trans-hydraulic fluid has been found to be better for the TA especially when being used in colder weather.

Water in the tranmission is common on the 300 due to condensation and the recessed bolt holes on the platform. I drained about 4 gallons out of my 350 when I bought it. Imagine what this water freezing can do to the huge rear casting or when you attempt to throw it into gear on a cold morning.
