I need to know the overall width of a 1956 Farmall 400 to check if it'll fit in it's possible new storage spot. I know the tread is adjustable, I just need the widest point width.

It'll save me about 150 miles to go and measure it if you guys can help me out.

Thanks in advance for any info....

smruph: If the 400 has original standard axles 84" to end of axles, optional long axles would be 100".

Smurphy72, the widest part of the tractor will be the end of the rear axles. This will vary according what the tractor came with or if the previous owner cut them off. I have a 1956 400 Diesel that I have cut off the axles for an overall width of 96 inches. The reason being that legally anything over 102 inches will require a over width permit.

Do you know what the overall width was before you cut the axles off? That's the dimension that I need. To my knowledge, this one hasn't been trimmed. It does not have duals, so the outside of the axles will be the widest point.

Thanks,

With the cast centers wheels and 15.5 tires and the double rims set on the outside bevel the widest point on mine is at 81 inches. The wheels are pulled in within 1 inch of the axle seal point. The dishes are facing out; if they were turned in you could get much narrower but maybe the axle itself would be the widest point then????
