My Super Ser#32XXXhas the battery under the seat .live pump and uses the old belly res.for the hyd. supply.I don't think that IH ever threw any thing away ,they just used old parts till they were gone and then went to the new stuff.I'll bet there is no date or ser#when they said we'll build them this way and tomorrow we'll throw out the old parts and start with new.

My newly bought '53 SM s/n F 30246 CJ has the front box. It has non-live PTO.

My 53, 30006, has the battery under the seat but no live hydraulics. No belly pump, either. ??? It's a pretty unique machine. Has the starter, choke, and belt pulley levers on the left side. Right on the line there somewhere. Thanks for the posts, guys.

The FARMALL LETTER SERIES TRACTOR BOOK says "The battery box was relocated under the seat to make room for the hydraulic reservoir under the fuel tank. The standard and hydraulic seats were changed to accommodate the new hydraulic systems on Super Ms F-28175 and later and L-504802 through 512541"
