I have followed the troubleshooting procedure in the operator's manual. According to the test the glow plugs are good, but they still don't work. There is power both into and out of the resistor. All the connections are clean and tight. Again, plugs test good, but there appears to be no current flow at all. Any ideas?

I have had to go to the extream of removing all connectors wire wheeling them, cleaning plugs real good and reassemble them, besure and check final connector to block. There are in a series, so if one quits they all quit.

Like Anthony, I had experience with early '80s GM diesels. My glow plug problem was due to a failed relay between the ignition and the plugs. The glow plugs themselves always tested fine but they weren't getting current and I felt stupid once I saw the problem, after making an unfortunate investment in plugs. Any relay between the 444 switch and the glow plugs that could be failed? Just a thought.

Juice is getting all the way to the plugs. There are no relays, just a switch that is held down manually. Power then flows through an ammeter then a resistor, then finally to the plugs. Like I said, there's plenty of juice to the plugs.

My diesel experience was an '83 GMC 6.2L. Checking with a test light showed power at the glow plugs. However, they didn't operate properly until I cleaned ground cable connections between engine and battery, and added a new engine-to-frame ground cable. Also, from past experience, test-light diagnosis for a power supply isn't always enough. You may want to test power supply at the glow plugs, just to be sure you're getting enough power supplied to them. It's bunches easier to light a test light than to 'light' a glow plug. Good luck with it.

I went ahead and tried running power and ground direct from battery to the glow plugs using jumper cables. Still no current flow. I think that since the glow plugs are wired in series, if one fails none will work (like christmas tree lights). Although the plugs did pass the test as outlined in the book, I think one or more may in fact be faulty. I"m going to go ahead and change them all. Thanks for the advise.
