I sent out a happy thanksgiving message and seen how large a geographical area we old iron lovers are from. I am just curious do we have all 50 US states covered here? All the Canadian provinces? Please take a minute and let me know where you are from. I am from SW Ohio here.

South Eastern Ontario here way down in the Ottawa Valley couldn't spit to Quebec could come close to NY state though just across the river, make it there to Lafargeville to watch the stock car racing a few times a year. Might be within a 100 miles of you Quebec Red. Know of any good cheap used 36X11 or so tires around your area Quebec Red? Need a couple to fit my Super C I bought a few months ago. Mine have a few splits right through the tire and the tube is showing. Hoping to find a pair somewhere before the snow gets too deep and a chunk of ice goes through it when I am plowing my driveway.

When I was BTO I would buy tires for my tribe at Garage Chartier, St Barnabe Sud, QC. That is the next town northeast of St. Hyacinthe. Super large all brand independent tire only dealer. Post back if you are interested and I will dig out details next week. I am just west of Mirabel airport land.

Hugh I do not believe I do; however I know a Don Maywell over by Richmond, Ontario. Keep those offsets in prime condition. In Quebec most small Farmalls were sold as prime power in the forties and early fifties, result being most were scrapped or sold out in the sixties. No more A-140 around. Always look forward for your excellent comments and wisdom, whether it being a RTO12513 or .25 HP per acre. Thank you.

Red: What caught my attention in your post, was your mention of farming around Mirabel. Don and Carol used to live at Mille Isle. They lost much of their farm land to Mirabel Airport. They sold remaining farmland and home at Mille Isle some 10 years ago and bought a farm in Ontario, at Loggan Rd., Dalkeith.

Carol was originally from Nova Scotia and a good friend of my wife (Marg.) In the 1960s Carol went to teach school in Quebec community just across river from Hawksberry ON. She met Don and they married. We went to visit them once at Mille Isle. At that point we had never met Don. We arrived in Hawksberry about 7pm, (as this was a surprise visit them we phoned) it was so foggy you could barely see 50'. Carol was at a meeting, so Don agreed to come and meet us in Hawksberry, he said we would never find Mille Isle in fog. Don and I did so much farming that Nov. night, he let his wood fires go out, man that big house was cold at 2 am.

Just have a gut feeling we are talking about same guy.

Hello Hugh. Funny that you mention all these Eastern Ontario/Quebec towns. I am from Vankleek Hill(next to Hawkesbury), Dated a girl from Mille Ille, and worked for four years on a farm in Dalkeith, just off the Laggan Road. Small world. Now live in New Brunswick. Happy U.S. thanksgiving!

Kent: thanks for that correction on Laggan Rd. I had Marg's address book, guess I just read too quickly. I will not critize her hand writing.

Always liked the look of that Eastern Ontario farmland. Drove through it on several ocasions, and briefly stopped to visit. Always wanted to take an indepth look, but just never took the time. One of our daughters lived a winter in Ottawa. Her reports of those Ottawa temperatures, satisfied my urge to look closer.

Hi again guys. Just an update here. According to my figures we are still short the following states- Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin in the USA. Double check me on this though my Canadian friends, I am figuring shortages on the following Canadian provinces and territories- Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and Nunavut. Could someone please double check me on Canada. My Canadian geography isn't the best so I may have misfigured someones location. We also had someone respond from Mexico. Let us all know where you are from. I'd love to get all of the USA and Canada covered. Thanks to those who have responded!

If it wasn't for the eastener's and their darned taxes, it would be a pretty darned good place to live.

The way it is now, I'm either workin' for the IRS or the State of Nebraska.

Allan, How far from Hay Springs do you live? My Grandpa Peters grew up in the Mirage Flats area in the 1890`s until he moved back here to Wisconsin around 1908. My great uncle Bill Christians was a well driller in Hay Springs-Rushville area and farmed a quite a bit of land up till he passed away in the 1970`s

Hi Guy!!!!

Was your grandpa's name Arnold? Or, was that his dad's name?

I think I just about know all the peters, 'cause that's my turf; you must be a cousin to Jerry and Gene? How were you related to old Joe Peters? One of your cousins (Ron) runs the bank in Hay Springs now.

Our farms are on the west end down there; the Peters' all lived over on the east side except Don who lived just up the road from me & Dan who farmed closer to Hay Springs.

Billy Chris drilled both of our wells and our first one was the third or fouth on the flats... Billy drilled his own well first as I recall.

Remember Billy well; he was very well thought of in this country. He had a hired man with a hook for a right hand too.....think he got it taken off in a well driller winch or some such thing.

I could go on and on. The wife and I came within an eyeblink of buying Shirley's (Bob Peters) place over NW of Rushville last fall. Nice place, but not irrigated.

Thanks for the hollar,

Allan

Mark,

Your great, great, (maybe great again) grampa Arnold was the one who was always tanglin' & scrappin' with Jules Sandoz. (From Old Jules fame by Marie Sandoz). :>) Those two both lit on the flats the the mid 1860s & fought tooth and nail.

Is this the granpa who moved up to your country? Never did hear all of the story. He was more than likely the dad of the granpa you speak of.

Allan, My grandpa`s name was Henry. He was born in Holland,WI in 1889. His father, Martin, died when Henry was 10 months old.His mother,Crescensia, remarried 3 years later to Chris Christians (Bill Christians father). They moved to the Nebraska panhandle to homestead at the urging of Martin`s brothers ,who had moved out to Nebraska from Wisconsin a few years earlier. They sent glowing reports of the great soil, level land and not needing to clear the fields of trees.Arnold,William,George and John were the names of Martins brothers who moved to Nebraska. I don`t know if you heard of Leonard Peters,he was a son of Arnold and was my grandpas 1st cousin.I went out to Hay Springs, Nebraska with my dad Elmer Peters in late Dec 1969 and remember visiting Ervin Blonien on New Years Day 1970 and watching Johnny Rodgers and the Cornhuskers win the Orange Bowl By the way, If I look around here hard enough, I know there`s a copy of "Old Jules" lying around somewhere.Grandpa talked about him alot. It`s been nice reminiscing, Allan . Have a great Holidays, Mark

I'm in the geographical center of North Carolina about 25 miles south of Greensboro in the Piedmont area of North Carolina which is to explain is the area east of the mountains, west of the coastal plain and north of the sandhills. Our soil is predominately red clay. Our average date first frost is October 25 and last frost is April 10, although I once saw it snow in early May in 1983.

I live in Alaska and read this forum all the time. I am presently in Dallas, TX, helping my elderly mother. I have a "H" in Alaska, a SMTA, Super M, and Cub Cadet in Texas. Two of those I plan to take to Alaska. Not a farmer, just love old red tractors. All you guys are so helpful and interesting. I love reading your advice and comments. I've learned a lot. Thanks to all of you! . . . and HAPPY THANKSGIVING ! ! !
