Hi,

just bought a B-414.
It runs and drives, but I want to know
if anyone know what sort of engine-vent cap is on top of the engine? I think it"s also the the oil fill cap? Now, there"s a rubber hose on it that goes all the way down at the right side of the engine, this can"t be right?

The next thing I need to know is, does anyone have a wiring diagram for this tractor. There"s just not much original wire on it. the only thing that works is the dynamo; the starter, well a part of it seems to be wired correct. only there is a new wire directly from battery to the little switch on top of the starter.

Any help will be lighly appreciated.
Thanks

The cap on top of the valve cover is the oil fill opening and I believe the hose from the cap down the side is a crankcase vent which "blow-by" escapes. As for wiring diagram you need to find a manual for a B414, I often see them at tractor shows and through various dealers, your local TSC dealer can likely get you one....Mike in Exeter Ontario

Well, I did think that the cap on top of the valve cover is the oil fill, but what kind of cap goes on that tube, now there's just the "blow-by hose" wich I don't think is near any original part. And I don't think these tractors had blow-by tubes, at least our B-614 and 634 don't have that tube.
But they have a "venting cap" on top of the valve cover and an oilfill tube at the right side of the engine. the 414 has a diesel engine. Maybe the gas engine is a little different.

Well and for the wiring diagram, I don't really need it. I just need to know what switches are supposed to be in the dash. Wiring it correctly is that much of a problem if you can start from scratch.
I know that there's supposed to be a lightswitch (that one is still in the dash), But then they've put so many other switches on and under the dash,I just can't find out what's needed.
there's one pre-heat switch(key operated), an ignition switch (also key operated), the old lightswitch, a new pull-type lightswitch and a switch for the turn signals, and 2 pushswitches(don't know what they're for, are wired but nothing happens)

What did these old 414's have?
lightswitch
ignition/pre-heat switch (or are these separate)
startswitch is on the starter, it has the original "Lucas" starter

If someone can tell me what switches are needed, and how they look like, that would be great.

Maybe someone can take a picture from the dash and/or valve cover with the cap on top

Thanks

I have a 364 which is a newer version of the 414, and also has the BD-154 engine the cap on mine dosn't have the hose you are talking about maybe it's a add on, although mine has a vented cap on the filler which is a crankcase vent. As far as the wiring you need to get a manual, lots of tractors are wired different. Hope this helps.

thanks dave.

I allready knew that the hose wasn"t OEM.
But I need to know what goes on then, Do you have the IH part number; So maybe I can get the part at a local dealer.
For my electrical prob, I only need to know what switches are in the dash. Getting it wired that"s no problem at all. I just have no clue on what"s supposed to be there for ignition and glowing. Are there 2 separate switches?
or is it a combined ignition/glow switch?
I"ve rewired our 634 without a wiring diagram, just common sense and some logic thinking, but all the original switches were still there. Once I know what switches the B414 needs(to appear original), it"s just one afternoon, me, the tractor and some wire. :-D

The glow plugs are operated from the key, go past on but not quite to start and they should light up. Sounds like you have a pvc type oil cap on your engine, I would just run down to napa and pick up one with the open breather in it and you should be all set, mine the key controls the glow plugs and starter, then on the left side of the dash you have your headlights and worklights. Is that what you needed?

How do you know the switch is bad are you sure you are getting fire from the battery to it? If so did you test the posts to see if the fire is getting there, could be just a broken wire, I have also put on brand new solinoids that were no good, you just can"t get quality parts anymore.
