Ihave an H in need of an engine,I have done V8 repowers and are happy with them . one a 345 in a 560 the other a 345 in my M.I thought finding a Chev 2.8 liter V6 carburated .engine with a standard transmission would be no problem. They made thousands of S10 pickups, I'm having no luck in finding one.Anybody know where I can find one.prefer within 250 miles of DesMoines,Ia.Really appreciate any help on this Thanks.

You might have better luck looking for a 4.3. Those 2.8s were kind of an odd-ball engine, didn't seem to share any parts with any other GM engines.

The problem with a 4.3 is they are all throttle body injected, and require a computer to function. I have enough trouble figuring out the computer I;m on. Don't think I could make an engine run with one. I did find out they used a few 4.3 carburated engines in marine applications.

Not all 4.3 V-6's are injected. Look for one out of a 86 or older 1/2 ton GM pickup. It will be a carbureted engine with a 4bbl intake.

I am certainly not an expert on such matters but I would think you could just toss all of the electronic stuff including the throttle body into the trash can and start all over with a carburetor. Remember, the 4.3 is nothing more than a 5.7 with the front two cylinders cut off. It also seems to me that there is a class of nascar racing that uses those 4.3 engines. I could be wrong but I doubt if they have left the electronics intact for that application.

I agree a 4.3 better choice. Have had two Astro Vans with 4.3 almost 2xx,xxx on each and no problems. I'm not sure that the 2.8 will run that long. Just my thoughts.
