Super A has the hydraulics, and I think it might have a larger bore diameter.

Martin: Actually all Super A's with the exception of the last 1,957 built had the same bore from factory as the A did, 3". From serial number 356001 to 357958 they had the C-123 engine with 3-1/8" bore, those tractors were called Super A1, not to be confused with Super AI or (Industrial). From serial number 310000 on they used the C-123 block, with thicker sleeves giving them still 113 cubic inches. That block part number used after 310000 was 354898 R1.

Since manufacture all A and Super A can be converted to 3-1/8 bore sleeves and pistons. On the tractors having block with part number 354898 R1 you can actually install 3-1/4 bore sleeves and pistons, same as used in C-135 engine. You will not however have a 135 cu in engine as that one used longer stroke as well.

It only took 45 years for me to learn this much about these. I posed the question a few months back, can a C-135 engine be fitted with C-135 crank and rods as well as 3-1/4 bore sleeves and pistons, and giving full 135 cu in. I am not satisfied I have good answer on this yet.

The 135 sleeve is bigger at the bottom were it fit’s the seal by .030. Other than that is the same as the 3 ¼” sleeve for the 123 on my 100. Piston is a little different for the 135. That may be because of the stroke. The shirt is shorter on the 135 and has less dome at the top. I orderd the 135 kit by mistake. If someone needs a 135 kit I have one at a deal

Hugh,
I think you meant, "can a C123 engine be fitted with C135...". In a word, No. The C135 crankshaft is different from the C1x3's. There are two versions actually, each with different journal diameters, and both larger than the C1x3's. Journal diameters are larger (mains and rods) and at least on the later C135 that I have been playing with, the front and rear main journals are narrower because the crank is much beefier. Also uses the new 1 piece rear main seal which is totally different. I know of several people custom grinding these cranks to use in the C1x3's, but it's certainly not just a drop in deal.

Nope, the bore is the same, but they did change the block (sometime after 1951 I think) during the run of the Super A to the one used in the Super C. However they ran thicker sleeves in it so the bore was the same. Hope this helps, SAm in NS

A super A has hydraulics and a plain A doesn't. Slightly different dash etc. on the super, but hydraulics is the main difference.

Main difference is hydraulics. Super A has hydraulics, straight A doesn't.
Couple of other minor things, but thats the main one.
