A while back, I asked about an alternate means to drive the tachometer of our 756 now that it's been retrofitted with a DT360 bus engine. One of the suggestions was a Delco 10SI alternator that's been fitted with a standard tach drive.

Well, Dad's been running the tractor all summer, and he's starting to miss the tachometer and hour meter. After much deliberation, he's broken down and is ready to buy the alternator.

What I need to find out is what specific tractors used the Delco 10SI alternator with the tach drive. Someone mentioned Massey, but no specific models. I'd like to pick one up and give it to him for Christmas.

I believe the mech tach drive was provided only on the externally regulated Delco alternators. At least I've never seen a tach drive on a 10SI (internally regulated) Delco.

Incidentally mechanical tach drive alternators were used on many Case tractors in the mid/late 60's. Value Bilt showed them in their catalog them last time I looked.

Tisco offers alternator conversion kits for Ford tractors using the 10SI in the self-exciting (one wire) configuration. They also sell the drive separately. It will fit any Delco 10SI alt with the back end of the rotor drilled and tapped 3/8-16.
