Cam shaft question

I have read that a Super H cam shaft can be used in an (non-super)H and will boost output a hp or two. I am rebuilding my '44, dual fuel H (has a distillate head). As you know these tractors don't generate as much power as a gas burning H, and a few more hp would help with chores around the farm - this will be a working tractor. I plan to beef up the power a bit by using step head pistons with overbored sleeves.

Can I install the super H cam without further modification? Will I need different cam bearings or push rods? I would like to keep the tractor close to original, i.e., keep the head I have, but give it a little more power.

Thanks for you help.

I think Chad is correct, the cam will work. However, there was a change along the way in the H cam. The retainer nut at the front was originally right hand threads. Newer cams have lefthand threads and nuts there. The reason is that there was trouble with the nut coming off due to the shaft rotation, so the threads were changed to left hand. So be sure to get the nut with your cam in case the one you have is righthand, as I am sure the Super H would have the lefthand threads.

Just install it. same cam bearings as the H. any Super H-350 cam is what you are looking for. It helps with low end torque, just like an RV cam in an auto engine. I would guess you have the low compression head, being an original dual fuel,, Check the head casting number under the valve cover to see which one it is. Good cyl head castings are 8043D, 8043DD, and the later 300-350 heads. ( i cant think of the casting number for those of the bat, ) Good Luck! ChadS
