I have a PTO operated Log Splitter and a Bushhog, both of which probably have not had their oil changed in many, many years. Both work fine but I am sure that there is a lot of bad stuff inside them. What should I replace the oils with. I am assuming that the Log Splitter should get new hydraulic oil and the bush hog some sort of gear oil but I need some specific recommendations so I can get to the store over the holidays and do some needed preventive maintenance. Thanks gents, Ramon

If you find the Bush Hog is empty because of a bad seal, try putting a high temp gun grease in it. Out of five mowers we have I think three run with gun grease because of bad seals.

I'm new to hydraulics in general but, from the posts here and from talking to local equipment people, hy/trans oil for the logsplitter and 90W or a multi-grade gear oil for the bush hog. Wal-Mart seems to have one of the more economical deals for both. You may want to do a couple of changes in quick succession with hard working of the equipment in between to work a flush of both systems.
