Most of the sellers we all deal with in the tractor community are good and honest traders. I have noticed that when one of us feels cheated we share that information with others to hopefully spare them the grief. Such is the case with 4-States Salvage and Dale Lee. When I pointed out that even though he claimed he had tested the starter I had purchased, when I inspected it before installing, I found the field winding copper strap was so badly twisted up on the terminal bolt, it is beyond soldering. I told him if he would buy the winding for $22, I would do the work to repair it and that would be fair. He said all items are sold As-Is, tough luck buddy, I make a ton of money selling on Ebay so I am not worried about you warning anybody on YT or Atis. .....That reminds me of the saying Caveat Emptor, or as Dale Lee would say "screw you, I got my money"

TRACTOR TOM,Thomas Thal or cap-e-tom (ebay I.D.)is one of those people that likes to twist the facts. He won an auction for a starter that was removed from a 1956 I.H. 300 utility for $52 + shipping. It was tested before it was removed and bench tested before it was shipped. It worked fine BUT it was sold as is with no warranty. He emailed me demanding that I reimburse him $22 because the wire inside was twisted and would not last long under a load. Then he immediatly filed a Paypal fraud complaint (trying to get his entire purchase price +shipping back and still keep the starter.)Naturally it was dismissed after it was investigated. How cam anybody whine and snivel about having $74.00 + shipping (including the $22 he is crying about)invested in an IH 3 bolt starter?I even emailed him after paypal completed the investigation and I was cleared and offered to send him $25 thru paypal but he never responded. Some people expect to buy gold for scrap iron prices.I just wanted to tell my side no the community can be the judge.

Same thing happened to me when I bought a tractor that was for sale through the YT ads. We e-mailed back and forth and he described this H tractor as being almost perfect. Well I had it shipped up here and when it arrived I almost cried. What a "rag". You have got to watch out for some of these guys. Especially the ones that are "brokers", you see them selling different tractors all the time. I think they will say anything, because they know once you have it shipped.... you can't afford to send it back. I hate liars!

What type starter and how much did you pay for it?
A salvage starter is not exactly a re-built or guaranteed starter. Judgement would really depend on what it was and how much it cost.

Lee, I think you missed the point, it was represented as being in good condition and ready for use.

Did it work as received? Guy doesn't say.
If he paid $200 it'd be a different matter than if he had paid $20.

He paid $52+ shipping and it was tested and working before it was shipped. My guess is that he twisted it installing it.Who would dis-assemble a starter before testing it?

I did a little research and that guy has sold a lot of stuff and has many happy customers. Maybe he was having a bad day.

Tom, I understand it may be more symbolic than effective but I hope you left NEGATIVE feedback on this seller. Some of us check feedback before we make a bid and every little bit helps sincere bidders avoid a trainwreck. I left neg feedback once and you would have thought the sky was falling. Wound up getting $120 back, keeping the item, in return for mutually withdrawing feedback on the transaction. But sounds like your seller lives in a special place where he doesn't care about anyone else. (He from Washington DC by any chance?)

And to think that I just finished refunding a payment made to me because the buyer had mistakenly paid me twice for the same item. What was really interesting about the whole deal was that the buyer didn't realize it had happened. My bank account will suffer but I will sleep better.

WOW, advice taken.
I'll stay honest, thank you
eBay might not be around forever and I'd like to be able to stand on my own someday.

I've watched your auctions NC - seem to be good ones - where the heck did you come across a NOS live pump????? ? The guy that bought that got a steal.

I try to be honest to a fault on eBay (well hopefully everywhere). I bought some watch batteries. They sent me 2 shipments. Each with the amount I bought. I sent one back, they couldn't believe it.

yes, that pump went a little soft, I don't pad my sales. But then other things make up for it. Like the John Deere hood that sold a couple weeks ago.

I like when you buy something like a manual for about 10.00 and they invoice you for 20.00. You then get a manual in a plain brown envolope, folded in half by the post office with 2 stamps for a grand shipping total of about a buck.

I agree about how people represent everything I hate it. I traded a good running speedex for bolens that had a sickle bar and rotiler and suppose to run with a little cleaning. $50 dollars later it ran but would not stay running due to blow by.
